Sale - 1968 Hustler Clubman (Group O Sports)
Tony
Simmons (Simmons Wheels) built two Hustlers during 1967-1968, this
car is the number two car, Tony still owns and races (very
successfully) the number one car.
I purchased the car in 2002 and have given it a back to frame rebuild,
with every singe component being renewed or overhauled.
The engine is a Ford 1500 pre-crossflow with major work by Crankshaft
Rebuilders in Melb, Its fitted with forged pistons steel crank etc,
DCOE 40 carbs x 2. Gear box, Cortina 4 speed close ratio by Needam.
Suspension all new by Smithees, Brakes, Cortina discs on front, Austin
Freeway (front) drums on the rear. Axles, front Ford 10 cross over,
rear BMC. Tyres Avon, 2 meetings old.
The car was run at the Bathurst Easter 2009 meeting, and I have just
completed the HSRCA May 2010 Eastern Creek meeting with no issues.
The best lap time was 1min, 51.19 sec. The lap record for a Group-O
Clubman was set by Tony Simons in the sister car in 2008 at 1min.49.14
sec. A good driver would give this lap record a good nudge. The car
is ready for a new owner to just hop in and race. I have just retired
and am close to the point where I will need to retire from car racing
as well. This car has a CAMS Certificate of Description its approved
for targeted scrutiny, and also has CAMS approval to run a down draft
head with Weber DCNF carbs.
